Campus - 6th EDITION OF THE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE

The USA based Texas Tech University and Bannari Amman Institute of Technology (BIT), Sathyamangalam, India, will jointly organise the 6th edition of, “Advances in Textiles, Machinery, Nonwovens and Technical Textiles-ATNT 2009,” during December 7th to 9th, 2009.

For the past five years, USA based Texas Tech University has been providing an international platform in the Coimbatore area, India for exchanging cutting-edge topics and ideas on emerging textile fields such as nonwovens, specialty fabrics and technical textiles. Value-addition and diversification are very critical at the present times due to the global economic slow down.

The ATNT-2009 international conference, which will be held at the Bannari Amman Institute of Technology campus in Sathyamangalam, India from 07-09, December 2009, will focus on finding solutions to some of the difficulties faced by the Indian and global textile industries and providing information on new market opportunities for global players. The conference will bring industrial and academic experts from many parts of the world to deliberate on latest topics in the field of value-added textiles spaning the entire spectrum of the textile idndistry. These will be of immediate use to the Indian and global textile industry. The major thrust of the conference is to bring industry, academia and government agencies on a single platform.

More Importantly, India now offers 100 percent foreign direct investment opportunity in the textiles sector and therefore it is of immense value for the global textile industry to participate in the international event, ATNT-2009.

IMPORTANCE OF TEXTILE INDUSTRY IN INDIA

India is emerging as a textile and manufacturing powerhouse with enormous growth opportunities. With the burgeoning middle-class population over 300 million, there will be an explosion of textile material usage in all sorts of applications, providing a huge market for global textile players. India is a preferred place for multinationals to venture into a myriad of business opportunities including nonwoven, medical, technical textiles and apparels.

The timing and venue of the conference are ideal for global players in academia and industry to assemble in India for the sixth time since 2004. India’s textile industry is growing in both conventional and burgeoning fields such as technical textiles with several supportive initiatives for the industry and research organizations to venture into technical textiles. For Instance, the Prime Minister of India has launched the National Technology Mission on Technical Textiles to promote research and development and the growth of the nascent technical textiles industry in India. International academia and industry have opportunities in India for research and business collaborations.

Some Important features of this year’s conference will be: 1) tips to diversify with the existing infrastructure and enhance textile sectors’ core competency and 2) discussions related to international tie-up opportunities in both technology and marketing, which will be of timely use for the textile industry.

A large global gathering with wider participation from academia, industry and government is expected. ATNT is now a recognized brand internationally and it is widely sought after both domestically and internationally.

Dr. Seshadri Ramkumar of Texas Tech University who originally designed and developed the ATNT conference is working jointly with Dr. A. Venkatachalam, Dean, Department of Textile Technology, and Dr. G.
